Mountain Leader >> Mountain Leader Training (Split Weekend Course)


This six-day course runs over three weekends in the Peak District, Lake District and Snowdonia and covers all areas of the Mountain Leader syllabus. The training course is a mixture of practical sessions on the hill and theory sessions covering areas such as emergency procedures and mountain weather. Youth hostel accommodation is included in the Peak District and Snowdonia.


Prior to attending this course you must:

  • Be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Have at least year of mountain walking experience.
  • Have registered for the Mountain Leader scheme with Mountain Training. In order to register for an award with Mountain Training you must be a current member of a UK mountaineering council e.g. British Mountaineering Council (BMC). Note: it is not necessary to have registered with Mountain Training to book a place on the course. Registration can take place between booking and the start of the course.


Bed and breakfast accommodation is provided on the first weekend (Saturday evening) at a youth hostel in the Peak District. On the second weekend we will be camping at a remote camp site in the Lake District. Bed and breakfast accommodation is provided on Saturday evening of the final weekend at a youth hostel in Snowdonia. Please supply your own food with the exception of breakfast on days two and six of the course.
