Mountain >> Scottish Winter Mountaineering

This two-day course, based in the Cairngorms, is for hillwalkers who would like to learn the skills needed to enjoy the hills in winter. The course would also be suitable for anyone needing basic snow and ice skills before heading to the alps. The Cairngorm mountains and the Northern Corries offer an ideal location for this course allowing us to easily get onto proper winter terrain.

The programme content includes: winter equipment, use of ice-axes and crampons, emergency self arrest, avalanche awareness, winter navigation, mountain weather and building emergency shelters.

The emphasis of the two days is on trainees learning practical skills and there will be plenty of opportunity to practice in the mountains of the Cairngorms.

Ratio 1:4

Ice axe, crampons and helmet can be hired if necessary.
